I agree with the keep it clean! I also had a puppy who did it for a little while and I
could barely get to it she gobbled it up so fast. She quit in a couple of weeks and the vet said it was nutritional in her case. We had immediately switched her to a premium puppy food. What do you feed? If it is not a premium dog food try switching. A good place to research dog food is;
Dog Food ~ Decoding Fact from Fiction by Laura Presley
This is a great 3 page article that offers a grading system so you can check your pet food and offers suggestions for good choices.
SitStayFetch also says the food switch should help in about 2 months so be patient. ( if it is nutritional)
SitStayFetch also say the habit usally decreases after 1 year of age, so it may indeed be nutritional.
It also says if you can stop the habit for a month, this might be long enough to break the habit,
Keep the area clean as the last poster mentioned,
SitStayFetch also mentions these:
keep the dog on a leash and immediately after elimination briskly walk away at least a couple of steps and give dog a treat
Booby trap an old stool by putting hot sauce or lemon juice in it, put it back together and the bad taste might stop your pet;
and that some owner use a spoon full of canned pineapple or a teaspoon of spinach a day.
I would definately check out the nutritional issue, that is what it was with ours and thankfully it stopped pretty quickly with a better diet.Hope you find a solution soon.
I just found something else on a different site;
