I think group lessons are goood because the dogs are exposed to other dogs which helps them become better socialized. Also, it requires them to learn to be obedient and listen to commands in situations where there are a lot of distractions - rather than when conditions are "perfect."That said, if you want to work on a specific behavioral issue or if you are dealing with aggression, one-on-one sessions are the way to go.

I agree group lessons are better for obidience. They get much needed interation with other dogs, and socializtion. Like Bozema said, it helps them learn how to listen to commands in distracting situations!

I always think group lessons are better for the average pet dog. They help your dog with socialization, distractions and attention. Group lessons are especially good for aggressive dogs because they learn how to tolerate, not interact, with other dogs. Even in a group setting if you need extra help the instructors are always willing to help at the end of class. A word of caution, no matter what route you take make sure to visit a few classes or watch a private lesson or two before you decide on a trainer the reason is because you want to make sure you feel comfortable with the methods that are used and the person you will be dealing with and make sure the person is very knowledgeable in dog training and their evaluations of dogs, also please stay away from petsmart or petco their instructors are not very good and they only have one or two ways to solve a problem.

Group, because it helps socialise the dog and training them around distractions makes it easier on you later, they will obey you any where. One of my dogs will not listen to me outside the home because there are too many other things going on.
