when you find the dog chewing calmly tell it "no" and give it a toy or bone to chew on that is approved for him. repeat for chewing habits inside and tell him good boy for chewing on toys not other things and don't tell him no if you don't catch him in the act, it does no good and just gets he/she confused.

The trick is keeping the dog in a confined area for a while, and train yourself to take it out every hour and a half or so. The larger the dog, the easier they will train usually, but little ones need to be taken out night and day! They will soon find a way to let you know when they are URGENT. Good Luck! And BE PATIENT, you can ruin a good dog by slapping it even once, especially if it is a small breed.

Put your puppy in a kennel at night, take it out to potty then go to bed .

I have a chocolate lab also and had the same problem. I reverted to crate training. It works great. The first night is the worsest though. They will holler all night. But within 48 hours they will know the deal, and know that they will spend the night in the crate. Try it. Guaranteed to work.

We actually have videos that assist in breaking just this kind of behavoir. If you check out the videos at the link below, I would recommend the Naughty Behaviors title. If you need more info, let me know or you can use the contact link from the site.
