Default How can i train my dog to come " all the time"!!!!?

Now this is only on occasion but still its so annoying. We live in an apartment and normally our dog (7or 8 mo. old pit/ boxer mix) is really good with us letting him off the lead and playing fetch, but occasionally he will not come!! He wants us to play tag or something. The strange thing is when we start walking away from him he will just start walking away from us! He is not neutered so i know that can play apart but he just will not come!! Help please!

Bribe them with a treat. Pupperonis or Natural Balance Lamb formula samples are the best.

I have a 4 year old GSD that has 98% recall but is very territorial. We have a large field where I run the dogs and we have the occational neighbor that walks up our long driveway. Gretta runs off barking (which, understandably, scares people) and will not come under those circumstances. I tried everything the trainers had to offer and none of it worked with her if someone was coming up the drive. I'm sorry to say I have had to resort to an electronic collar. It's the only thing that will stop her when she's in territorial mode. Gretta is very good at listening and following commands under all other circumstances so even though the collar is on her when out in the field, I rarely have to use it. There are trainers on here that can give you some good tips...things to try that may work for your dog. Good luck!

Here's what you do.When he's off lead call him over. Praise him, pretend like you are going to take him inside (whatever signals playtime is over, pretend to put the leash on, etc.) then tell him, "go play" and release him back to play. Do this several times during the play time. Never be predictable, but on one of the times you call him over, actually go in. As you are walking home, say "go home". When you get to the house, he needs a great treat. Going in after playtime should mean the best, juiciest treat of the day. Say "go home" as you give it to him.By never being predictable, he will never know when to ignore you.By training him that all things good and yummy happen at home after play time, he will want to go in.Eventually, calling out "go home" will have him running for your front door.Keep in mind that a lot of this is his age. He has hit his "teenager" stage, and is testing his boundaries. Be patient, consistent and firm.Good luck
