I f this dog is mature it is just hit and miss and everybody has a method that works- or not for them.If it is a young puppy, the best way is to keep his food up out of reach until time to eat. Once you feed him, you immediatlytake him outside because feeding stimulates his urge to go.After a short while he learns to associate the urge with the outof doors. Also keep his water up until you feed him.

the best way is to dedicate many hours well about 3-4 hours a day to observe the dog's behavior inside the house and whenever is doing something wrong then correct it so it will know better.and if ots a big dog take it for a long walk to get all of its energy out.

Good answer KelC - One final recommendation -- when they wake up from a nap, take them out; when they eat or drink, take them out; when they play, take them out. Also, when you take them outside, don't come back in until they've done something! When you combine this with a command to do something (potty, "do your business," etc.) they will learn pretty quickly!
