some kind of terrier is what you want. There are various to choose from. I suggest you go out and buy an AKC book that has details of all of them.Good luck and have fun!

Always had good luck with Boxers. They are great with kids. well behaved, never had a problem training them, and good in public places.

We had 2 Brittney Spaniels as kids. The first one was the ANGEL, calm, great around my baby sister (who was learning how to walk and used the dog as a walker, hoist, etc...) And then we had another in the later years; HYPER. It might be because of everyones growing lifestyle we were not around as much as we were before...... I guess its a chance. But the first was the best dog EVER. (Liked to run though--bird dogs!)

the american pit is all of these things the only hazard is that you must find a blood line that has not been imbred or tampered with. ive owned 2 and they are very good with kids but beware some are brerd to fight and guard and may be too inconsistenly calm for kids i would look for dogs in the toy breed or i'd get a greyhound or a sheep dog

Border Collies are good if raised with you from a puppy. Beagles are also good. Springer Spaniels are good family dogs. These are just a few, but i think going to the animal shelter and finding a mixed breed usually end up making the perfect pets.

Rat terriers. they are amazing. no they aren't like little purse dogs, but are more like jack Russel's, but cuter. they are great with family's and kids. they usually get along great with other dogs to. but you need to exercise them. just like any dog, take them on a daily og, and keep fresh food and water in a easy to get to place.

I would suggest a collie, or something that has lab blood in it. Maybe an Irish setter, or a Golden Noodle. They're all the latest rage, apparently. I wouldn't get a German, though. They're a heavier-set dog, and tend to be either aggressive, hyper, or both.
