Does anyone know if there are any restrictions or charges on traveling with dogs on trains in the UK. He is a very large GSD too, does this make a difference?

No, no restrictions that I know of, though station workers can forbid you from travelling with your dog during rush hour. And no dogs do not pay to travel!!

You can take them anywhere on the trains. You will have to keep it muzzled (thats a good idea) or on a collar and held on a lead. Best to keep it muzzled in case their are any aggresive dogs.charlotte

The last time i was on a train with my dog i was charged half the adult fare for the journey.. but that was in the good old days of B.R.

I'm not familiar w/ laws reg pets in the UK but my advice to you is to check with the UK .usally and I'm guessing here , the only dogs that are allowed on public transit is seeing eye dogs the other is they have to be in pet crates or carriers and have to placed in the baggage compartment during the duration of the trip for the safety of other passengers

I have worked on the railway for over 4 years and can therefore provide an accurate truthful answer.You can of course take a dog onto a train. They are treated similarly to children with respect that you can take up to two dogs free and you then pay a standard single fare for each additional dog.General common sense and judgement must be used by the owner. The dog must be kept on a lead and under full control at any time. The dog must not occupy a seat and if your doggy should have an accident then you are responsible for making sure that you clean up the mess.Please also bare in mind the temperament of your dog.
