Our situation is this: We live in a rather small apartment, with a dog that is growing rapidly (we think she is a Chow/Akita/German Shep mix). She is approx. 6 months old, and chews EVERYTHING. As we speak right now, she is chewing up the drywall in the corner. She destroys the carpet. She's destroyed my mother's antique rocking chair. She chews up the newspaper that we lay down for her.
We usually take her outside to do her business, but we lay paper down in case of accidents (which she rarely gets on target). Our biggest problem is that there's no one home from 8 AM to 3:15 PM. There's no one to watch her. She has to be tied up on the stairs, with barely any room to move around, because if we let her loose, she starts chewing things she's not supposed to chew, and peeing on the carpet.
She's been good with pooping, though. She won't poop inside the house unless no one's taken her out after she eats (which doesn't ever happen).
But when she gets too playful, she starts biting and scratching, which I know she doesn't mean to hurt, but it does anyway.
We've tried all the techniques, and nothing seems to be working. My dad is always going for the "RAWR ANGER SMACK HER SNOUT" route, and it just makes it worse whenever he's not around.
We have a small patio area we could put her on, but whenever we do put her up there, she barks pretty much non-stop until we bring her inside.
PLEASE, HELP.
