I recommend the book and video, "Good Owners, Great Dogs" by Brian Kilcommons. Brian is a very well known trainer, and his methods place heavy emphasis on kindness, firmness and reward, and not on repetitive exercises, loud voice and punishment. The book is good, but in combination with the video, really gives you a fairly comprehensive overview of training your puppy how to be obedient, and to stop doing things you find unacceptable.Obedience classes are even better. Check with your vet or local kennel club. Puppies are allowed to enroll as soon as their vaccinations are complete, and it doesn't matter if your dog is purebred or just a mutt.
