Default Please help - dog developed a fear for storm drains!

I have a 1 year old Mini Schnauzer, no real other behavior issues... asside from maybe being a bit spoiled.

Just recently he has developed this odd fear for storm drains, to the point where he'll either stop dead in his tracks a good 20+ feel away, or scamper to the middle of the street to walk directly between but as far away as poosible from both drains.

I can remember when it first happened, we were on a long walk on the first nice spring day... when you could hear the water rushing through one. He got the same reaction, but I thought it was the car that was driving by. I picked him up and walked down the street a bit and set him back down.

Can anyone help recommend a method for correcting this? I do have a drain on my yard (corner lot), this morning I brought a treat out there and sat right over the drain until he would come get it. Is this proper?

Thanks for all your help.

Your on the right track. I would start close to your house with your dog on a leash and walk him around, having him sit, lay down put him thru his paces. Offer lots of praise and treats and slowly move closer and closer to the scarry storm drain.
Good luck
