There is no untrainable dog, just people who don't know how to train them. You must seek professional help. I am not playing smart, I was like you, I thought I was trying everything, I was loving, I was strict, but nothing. I found a good trainer and my dog became just perfect! Remember: no violence at all, not even light tapping, it has opposite results. Also shock collars etc. are out of the question.

PetSmart offers excellent training classes for about $99 in most states. Definately worth checking out!

Training classes are good, if you want to go that route. Zap collars are not bad, as long as you read the instructions and know what you are doing. People on this site will argue that point. But, sometimes in order to train a dog a zap collar is necessary. It has helped my dog tremendously. I only had to have him wear it for about 3 days and he started understanding what was right from wrong. Now, he doesn't wear it at all. Sometimes it's necessary for some dogs.

If you want to have some control over the dog's behavior, it's critical that you take the lead in training. There are often classes through pet stores, local parks and rec organizations and local chapters of the ASPCA, but you need to be the driver. The fact is that dogs are pack animals. In a pack, there is one leader and a bunch of followers who have their own pecking order. A primary purpose of dog training is to establish yourself as the pack leader. The good news is that once you earn this position, you will never have a more loving and loyal friend than your newly obedient dog.Good luck.

I really like the dog whisperer a.k.a. Cesar Millan's take on training dogs. Actually it's more like training people how to act with a dog. He has a show on the national geographic channel called "the dog whisperer" and he also has some books out. It's true most people don't know how to properly train their dogs, but remember that not all breeds are capable of the same level of trainability.
