Default I'm trying to train my dog not to bark at everything. How would i go about it?

My dog keeps barking, usually at absolutely nothing. Somebody told me to use water mist gun, like for plants, but i'm worried that she may then end up afraid to bark at all. If anyone has any suggestions, please help.

You can buy a collar that makes a loud noise (to the dog) when he barks. It should deter him from barking! To be honest, i don't know if they work but i read about it! The water mist gun is used mostly on cats as they hate water. I don't think it would bother a dog the same!

I usually reward my dog when he barks at a stranger, since I want him to protect us.But when a family member or friend stops by and he barks, I usually try to calm him down by saying very low, deep "whoas" to him. It's a calming noise and he gets the idea that everything is A O.K. and calm. The "whoa" also works for when we're out on walks and he gets paniced.Try it. It may work. :]

Teach her to bark on command. If she barks when you haven't given the command, don't scold her , just don't pay attention. She'll eventually realize that if she barks when you give the command, she gets attention.

I know it sounds really strange but let her for barking when someone knocks but once you get to the door, tell her "good girl! thats enough" pet her and have her sit. Only when shes sittting then you can open the door. She'll learn pretty quickly that she can bark until you reach the door, and she'll sit and wait.

My yorkie tends to bark when someone is at the door, and hes much quicker to be quiet if I tell him good boy, thats enough, then if I would to tell him a stern Quiet.
