The way we taught my dog was just always taking him out to the yard every few hours to try and make him go to the bathroom. If he does go in the house he was scolded and taken outside. We just kept doing it and doing it and now he's six years old and hasn't gone to the bathroom in the house for at least five years.

it takes lots of time and patients.id first start off either getting a crate, or picking an easy to clean small room where your dog can spend ANY time it cant be watched with 100% attention on it.when the dog is out and loose in the house it MUST be watched very carefully, every time the dog starts sniffing the floor or turning in circles take it outside as it needs to pee, as soon as the dog wakes up take it outside it needs the bathroom, about 15 minutes after its food outside, and once every hour (more if its a oung puppy or an elderly dog) EVERYTIME it goes outside give it lots of praise and a special treat and playtime.when the dog goes inside bite our lip, suck it up and use a good enzamatic cleaner. If your dog goes inside its not the dogs fault its human error you wernt watching close enough.as the dog becomes more and more reliable in the house leave it longer betwen bathroom breaks, a normal healthy adult dog can hold its bladder for 8 hours, but it needs to be taught first.be patient, be consistent and be positive.

Take it out t do it's thing ever 30 minutes .Then reward it f it does its thing outside .If it walks to the door or starts snffing around let it outside .Then reward it for making the right decision. If you cant keep an eye on it get a dog crate.Animals tend to learn quick not to go to the batroom where they sleep.

crate training, the best thing you can do for your puppy. done right, your dog should like to go to its crate. dogs, by nature are den animals, they don't like to mess in there den.So when you cant be there with them, you crate them. never use it as a punishment. There are books at your local pet store on it.
