Default How do you train a dog that isn't bothered about food?

We have an 8 month old pointer and we're starting to train him basic commands. But we can't use treats as rewards - he's just not bothered about them. We've even tried fresh ham! All he does is look at it and perhaps spit it out. What other ways are there of rewarding a dog so that he knows he's got it right. He gets enough cuddles and praise anyway, so he's not really bothered about that either..

you wouldnt believe it but dogs love to have attention so this will work in helping you train your pooch, that is what a dog thrives on.just make it obvious when he has done something right even if you look like a complete loon
