you don't throw it at the pets face you throw past the dog......all you will do is teach the dog to cower from the tossed toy.....try tossing from really close, a couple inches away...there are also online sites that can help out...good luck....

throw something, tell it to fetch in an exiting voice over and over, then after throwing it go get it your self, then put it in your dogs mouth, and let it go on like that!

Would you catch something in your mouth that someone threw at your face? Your dog sees no benefit to him in catching objects thrown at him. Teach him to catch things in his mouth by holding small treats that he enjoys just above his nose. When he gets the hang of catching the dropped treats, stand back a foot or so and gently toss them to him. When he can catch from a few inches away, step back a little farther. Keep increasing the distance as he gets more proficient. Above all, be patient and give him lots of praise!

I started with bits of food. (My dog LOVES french fries) I just made sure I had her attention and waved it once in front of her so she could see it and then I tossed it. Eventually she got the clue and started catching it. From there we just moved up to her toys.
