What kind of dog do you have? I have a yorkie and he is the hardest dog to potty train. He now knows what areas to potty in, but those 2ftX2ft squares mean nothing to him. I have a cousin that has a 7 year old yorkie. She told me that it took her almost two years to train her dog.

It took a long time to train my dog too. We crate him during the day when we are at work. He will probably not pee in his crate. My dog never does and sometimes we are away for work from 8:00-4:30. If I can, I come home during the middle of day for lunch to let him out. You need to get him into a routean. The first thing I do when I wake up is take my dog out. I do it again before I leave for work, then we crate him. Make sure your crate is big enough for him to stand up and turn around but not too big. When I get home, I let him out of his crate, wait for him to calm down and then let him out to go to the bathroom. Then about every two hours I ask him. Pick a phrase you use all the time. We use Pee-pee's outside or Poo-poos outside. I say it before we go out, while we are standing out there i repeat it, then after he goes I say it again. He will learn the phrase. Then I reward him immediately for going outside with a treat. He loves treats. It took about eight months to train him, but you have to be consistant and not give up. If he has an accident in the house, and he has just been outside or hasnt tried to tell us, I act mad. I say no pee-pees inside, pee-pees outside, and I stomp my foot. I never hit him or anything. He didnt really respond to me yelling, that is when I started stomping my foot. If I dont catch him going in the house I usually dont yell, since he probably wont know what i am yelling about. Also, clean up the area completely. They tend to resoil in the same area. Can you move his blankets, pillows and put a pad there in that place. We dont use pads.
