Default would it be more effective to get trained dogs.....?

would it be more effective to get trained dogs, that can smell guns and gun powerand put them in the entrance of a school.instead of having medal detectorsI would think they would be more effective to find bad things on kids.Have a school buy a 10,00 or 20,000 dollar dog.make the studens come in one at a time.faster than a medal detctoretc...

Well, here's the problem. There are plenty of legitimate hobbies that will cause on to smell of guns and gun powder. As for me, I once worked part-time for a pyrotechnics company. I also enjoy model rocketry. Additionally, I enjoy shooting sports ranging from plinking at the range to hunting. Further, I also have been known to re-load to create custom cartridges.I am in no way a twisted loony (I guess you'll just have to take my word for that one... ). If I happen to take some classes at Virginia Tech (or any other school for that matter) I would be damned put out at having to submit to a rectal exam by the security folks every time I showed up for class because my chosen legitimate hobbies left a trace smell of gunpowder. The bottom line is that no matter how hard one tries, one can't make the world 100% safe. I'm not saying that there should not be common sense basic security measures in place, but patting down everyone that enters some arbitrary facility (in this case a school) is a bit too "police state" for my tastes.
