training a puppy by having her hooked to me and crate training I have an astralian cattledog/golden retriver mix. she is 2 months old.
I have heard although very smart, astralian cattle dogs are very high energy and stubburn dogs and can be difficult to train if you go about it the wrong way.
her mother is my roomates dog and by watching the both of them I can tell her personality is more like an ACD than a retriver.
I have heard that by having the pup on a leash and having her hooked to you at all times is a good way to train, and I would like to try that but I don't want to go about it the wrong way. I like the idea because I will have no choice but to have an eye on her at all times and I can see when she is doing something undesirable or if she has to potty.
what I have been doing(starting today) is having the loop of the leash around my wrist at all times and if I am in my computer room(small area) I shut the door and let her run and play with the other dogs as long as I can have my attention on her.
I also want to have her crate trained but only have one crate. I sleep upstairs but spend my days downstairs. should I have the crate in my room or in the living area of the house? I am planning on keeping her in there when I am sleeping and when I am away. also when I absoloutly can't have her hooked to me or watch her. how can I make her comfortable in it so the crate is her "space" rather than her thinking is is a punishment or somewhere she dosn't want to be? I want her to like her crate and not hate it. |
