Default How do you train a 2 year old dog not to fear a leash, collar or harness?

2 year old female staffy cross ridge back will sit, stay, drop and come all off the leash but you can't get any restraining devices near her. She is visibly fearful. We can't take her out into the public.

every time you try to put it on her try giving her a treat so after a while she'll associate the collar with a treat so she will want to wear it and find it aint so bad

Try a choke chain first. When they are not pulled, it should feel relaxed. Give the dog time with something like that before you attach a leash. If you want to use a collar, attach it fairly tight so that the dog can't get it's paws through it. It will rebel! Not a pleasant sight, but it will get used to it. Don't take pity on it and take it off again - If you do that, then you have tormented it for nothing. Try to comfort it with low fat snacks as a distraction.

Try treats to encourage. Let her walk around with it on in the house to get comfortable. You can't change her previous experience with leases, but you can help make her future ones a more positive experience. Contact a good trainer. Some dedicated trainers will even come to your house and help you get started on the right track.

I used treat to start getting my dog used to the leash. How long have you had the dog. It sounds like some bad experience in the past. You need to create a positive experience around the leash.
