They are very intelligent dogs...But, you have to devote a lot of time and attention to these dogs. They are bundles of energy and will destroy your property if you leave them unattended.See the link

JRT's are very, very smart. And love to play and are very active. They learn quickly. Why people say they are destructive is beyond me. I have one and he is not at all destructive. I think it's all in how they are trained. ANY dog will be destructive if not taught better.

Jack Russell's are very smart and very trainable. If you don't want problems, however, start by training him/her as a puppy. Go to puppy training which is more of a socialization exercise. It wouldn't hurt go then and take a family friends class. Here they will teach YOU how to train your new dog. Most people don't realize that training classes are more for the owner to learn how to act and train his dog.Another thing people get wrong is getting a small dogs does not mean low maintenance/low activity. Jack Russells need a lot of exercise and attention. You have to be willing to give him/her lots of your time!!!

I havea Jack Russel. They are VERY smart... almost too smart for their own good. I would not reccomend one for a first time dog owner. Also you have to spend lots of time with them since they are high energy dogs, they can be destructive if they don't get enough attention. If you are consistant they are generally easy to train.
