maybe the last ppl who lived there had dogs and your dogs are just trying to mark their teritory to hide the old tenant dogs scent.

Rule No. 1 Do not punishRule No. 2 Do not rub his nose Rule No. 3 No yelling or threatRule No. 4 Need to stay calm this is like a 3 yr old human babyYou need to teach him commend & always praise "good boy" when he pee or poop outside.. First thing in the morning as soon as you get up you take him outside be sure it's the SAME spot each time, after his meal time after his naps after he plays take him out so he can release himselve! You need to keep your eyes on the pup all the time like a hawl if you notice he's going in circles or sniffing the house you need to take him outside quickly! The more you take him out so he can be out maybe for 10 - 15 minutes give him time to release himselve you say "good boy" but be sure to praise him while he is going not after or before. If you catch him at the moment if he goes in the house you pick him up quickly then bring him into the grass say "go bathroom" as he goes say "good boy"Also I'd probably take him out every 4 hours, be sure to crate him when you leave the house etc Always play with him outside that will usually help! Also if he doesn't go outside maybe stay outside with him for a hour until he goes :-) Most of all good luck

I suggest crate training. It's the easiest method of getting the idea across. Your puppy is making your living room it's bathroom, which means that the older dog will do the same thing. You have to get the smell out. I use a product called "Nature's Miracle" which you can get at almost any PetSmart or local petstore. There's a chemical in there that eats the enzyms that make the "This is bathroom" smell. To crate train is simple, but it takes a lot of work. Treat the puppy the same as the older dog. Put them both in a crate, or a restricted spot. Do not let them wander the house. Take them out every 2 hours. If they don't go within 5 or 10 minutes... straight upstairs and back in their crate or pen. Try again another 15 to 20 minutes later. Give them 5 or 10 minutes... if they go, PRAISE PRAISE! Tell them "GOOD POTTY" or whatever you want to label it, and then they get free time of about 2 hours. Then back in the crate or pen. Repeat those steps the first day or so... and then begin lengthening how long between potty trips. Your older dog should catch on pretty quickly. Be sure to watch for signs of needing to go. Noses to the ground, sniffing around intently means they're looking for a spot to go... so take whisk them outside and praise them when they've gone outside. If they start to go inside, clap your hands together... make a loud noise and scoop them up... even in mid-pee and whisk them outside. Praise them for going outside. Make a big fuss about doing it right and within a week or two both dogs should be asking to go outside instead of going in the house.Spanking, yelling, rubbing noses does NO good. The dog just thinks you've lost it and don't associate your anger with the potty accident. The trick is consistancy. There are other methods, but I've been raising and training dogs for almost 30 years, and this has been the most successful method to date. I even have a 4.5 pound papillon who is litter box trained! Same concept as what I just told you, except we used a litter box, instead of outside.
