Default How to we house train a dog who already has bad habits?

We have a male dog (Terri Poo) who is about 1 year old. We tried to house train and we failed. So we keep him outside all day. However, my son can't sleep at night if he is not in his room. The problem is that we can't get him to stop peeing in the room. We have tried, taking him out early and letting him in late. There has been times when he just went outside and then back inside and does his business inside, as if he had never gone outside. One more strange thing, he tends to do his business right in front of the door. We might be moving soon to an apartment complex, we don't want to leave him behind because of my son, so what can we do to train him before we move?

Pick up his water several hours before bed time. Get a pet taxi/crate and start crating him in your son's room at night. Make sure there are plenty of potty breaks before crate time and then take him outside immediately upon waking. He will not mess in his sleeping quarters - they need to be his size. If it's too big then he'll mess up a corner. Reward his good behavior with lots of love!

use reinforcement (rewards and punishments) to train the dog. dogs are trained according to the association they form with the act. make sure you associate the bad behaviour with the punishment (lighly tapping their snout with a rolled-up newspaper or spanking them) and good behavior with the reward (a dog biscuit or a pat on the head). to potty train a dog, make sure that as soon as you see him peeing (catch him in the act or about to pee), immediately perform the punishment so that he would be able to associate peeing or pooing on the carpet or anywhere inside the house as bad behavior. then take him outside where he could do his business and give him a "doggie treat" (reward) right after he does his business. then he would be able to associate that act as something good because he got a reward for it. now, this dog training thing would take time so be patient and be sure to execute the right actions for the right behaviors so that the dog will not get confused. good luck!
