Exclamation My dog still has an eating problem....

I posted a while back then got sick and couldn't get to the computer. Lakota, my black lab, Pit bull mix, is eating a little better, but now she has a bald spot on the top of her nose from her nerves. Please, if there is someone out there who knows how to help, do so, I would be grateful! This is what I have done that didn't work for very long. I used positive reinforcement, and every time she ate, I would tell her what a good dog she was...but if I have to raise my voice, she still drops to the ground in fear. My stepson and his wife almost destroyed her, by beating the heck out of her when she ate her food...Grrrrr! We got her after he died of a drug overdose, and his wife couldn't handle her and their four kids. I love her a lot and we play outside as well as inside. She loves playing keep away with her toys. I have even tried treats after she ate, and that didn't work for very long either. It is like there is a switch in her head, and if she gets too comfortable, it switches on and then she feels like I will beat her for eating. I am so disgusted with her former owners, that if I could reach into the beyond, I would choke Mike! If I pet her before she eats and after I put the food in the bowl, she flinches away from me. I am just about out of ideas! I even tried doing nothing and just telling her "there you go sweetie," and walking out of the room, but then she waited almost 4 days before eating. Won't do THAT again! Thanks for your patience, Rissa
