like the book i've read, you should combine voice commands and action commands.for example: if want to stop your dog you say stop with your hand (like the traffic agents do).good luck!tyra samp.s. if you like dog stories go to www.dogster.com for more dog news

I did this with "Sit!".First give command ONCE, loud and clear. Then position the dog using your hands. Once the dog is in position, give reward. Repeat, lessening the pressure of positioning until the dog does it without you positioning him. After the first few tries, of doing it by itself, lessen the reward, and start with a pat on the head or hugs or kisses! Aim to let the dog perform the trick with less reward or just a hug or pat.Don't worry, dogs love any attention you give them.

Great books at the library. How are you with children? Dogs are the same. Be the alpha parent. Firm, patient and kind. Depends on the intelligence of the dog, just like some children. Most dogs will respond if you give the same command e.g. NO. DOWN. HERE. SIT. Keep it simple. Dogs soon learn your mannerisms and expressions and what pleases and displeases. It is repetition, but not nagging. Just like children dogs are happiest when they know where the boundaries lie. Use a toy. Get secondhand (check how safe e..g stuffing and pieces that can be chewed off) from local opportunity shop. Use their toy as a treat or a titbit if they do the right thing by you. Good luck!
