The International Association of Canine Professionals is a very reputable organization. They have a search engine on their website to assist you in finding a canine professional in your area. The reason I find them to be so wonderful is that they have different types of trainers who use different methods and you can call around and find someone who's training methods work for you and your dog. Also, they have a board that does regulate it's members. If they get three complaints regarding one particular member, that member gets reviewed by the board. May I also suggest you contact your vets office as they should also have some great resources for you.

Look no further than Blockbuster or Netflix! The cesar milan videos are excellent. Also the skeet monks techniques are good: www.dogsbestfriend.com. At a traning course you'll spend 50 minutes a week (of which you're probalby spend 15 minutes working with your dog). To make the class material work you should still train with your dog at least 30 minutes a day throughout the length of the course. The point is, these courses primarily show you the exercises, you have to make it work on your own.Additionally the trainers teaching these courses always have a tendency to upsell you to agility training. We went to the training courses in rancho park (near pico and motor) . Very reasonable priced but not we weren't wild about it. We got more done on our own with help of these videos.

I fully agree with the above respondent who recommended the apdt website. Additionally, a highly respected member, and frequent speaker in the dog training circuit, Nicole Wilde works in the Los Angeles area. She's down to earth and really knows what she's doing. She doesn't teach public classes (just one on one) if that is what you are looking for, but she's probably got fantastic references.
