the best way to potty train a dog, is by placing a newspaper in the area you want him to poo on.if your puppy is inside the house start by placing the newspaper in the kitchen, 15 to 20 mins after you pup is done eating/drinking take him the the newspaper, and wait until he does his business. once the pup is older you can start taking the newspaper and your dog outside on the area where you want him to go. eventually your dog won't need the newspaper anymore. good luck

may seem mean but if they potty in the house rub there nose in it say NO in a stern voice and then take them to the appropreiate spot to potty...then reward them for it...my dad always did this with all the different dogs we had and it worked! hope it helps

I have 3 dogs the first was the hardest to house train.I found that if there was an accident instead of punishing the dog, let it know you are not happy but make sure the dog watches you clean up the mess and sees what it is making you do. talk to the dog about how awful it is and that you really don't enjoy doing it when you have cleaned it up take it and the dog outside to the same spot in your yard and put the mess down. It takes time but you will get there in the end. most of all it has to be easy for the dog to get outside if you don't have a dog door you need to have toilet times or just watch your dog if it sniffing around or looks uncomfortable take it outside to the same spot. good luck i hope it helps remember to praise the dog for doing the right thing "cheering for the poo"

Congrats on your puppy I have a Shetland sheepdog and training a puppy to go potty in a certain area can be tough. My husband and I used puppy pads with a scent on them and every time she used them we would give her praise and give her a small treat. She caught on pretty quickly, but there are going to be hit and misses. It takes time. If she missed and we saw her about to go (dogs like to make circles and sniff a lot before they do there business) we quickly put her on the puppy pad and when she did her business we praised her. You have to be consistent. There are also videos at Petsmart that have information for potty training and I think there are books out there too that give advice on puppy training and potty training. I hope this helped. Good Luck

You want to take your pup out constantly cause you want to avoid it ever doing its business inside. Once you are outside, just wait to see what your pup does. If it snifs around it'll probably find a good spot and go to the bathroom, if it just walks around a bit and then stares at you, chances are it doesn't have to go. The key is to jump around, scream excitedly, and give lots and lots of praise everytime your pup goes to the bathroom outside. I know it sounds weird but you want to make a big deal about it, put on a show for your pup, because your pup will love it and through repetition, it will learn that outside is the only place to go. Also if you want you can say a word each time it goes. So that soon, it'll recognize the word and realize what you want when you say it. Remember to stay consistent, you don't want to confuse your pup.

Feed at the same time each day.Walk outside about 15 minutes after feeding.Walk for 30 minutes or until he/she goes potty.Pick a key word to say prior to & upon walking such as 'potty' or 'outside'. Say these words repeatedly prior to & upon taking outside. When your puppy does his/her deed go crazy with love & affection, adding the word 'good' in front of your keyword. If or when you catch them going inside, make your shaming sound... be it a sound you make or the shaking of a can with coins in it. Then lead them peacefully to the door with your keyword 'potty' or 'outside' and go back to steps above.I have 5 dogs, all inside/outside dogs & we have no accidents here. I have never crammed their noses in anything, nor punished them after the fact. Positive reinforcement & extravagant praise coupled with some rituals & routines does the trick. As puppies only one took more than three days to train. You may also want to hang a jingle bell on your door of entry/exit. The dog will begin to associate that jingle sound with time to go out & will eventually learn to bop it with his/her nose to let you know when they want out.Good Luck!

Just take them out alot and when they go praise them. Also don't let them drink or eat late at night until there trained. It should only take a week or two.Their fast learners. My girl Bull Terrier took 3 or 4 days. Our boy yellow lab about 7-8 days. They were both 6-7 weeks old.But still expect accidents when their liitle. Our Pitbull we rescued since he was raised outside about 18months -24 months old about 2 weeks and after about 8 months he still has had a few accidents but thats OK. Progressive not perfection he's a good boy he'll get the hang of it.Boys take a little longer than girls and patience.
