Default I need help DESPERATLY!

Hi,

Recently my boyfriend bought me a min pin for my birthday and she is absolutely adorable. But she was purchased at a pet store and was never house trained. Now I'm trying to house train her.

Heres where my problem comes in... I take her out about every hour so she can go potty. But it seems that she doesn't like to go into the grass and when I do get her in the grass all she does is eat the grass and flowers. If I correct her and tell her to go potty she stands there for a few minutes and then continues doing it or she'll just lie down and refuses to get up and go potty.

After about 20 minutes of doing this...I bring her inside and not even 10 minutes later shes using the bathroom on my floors.

So does anyone have any ideas when it comes to a dog not liking the grass and if not I could use some advice in house training her.

Thanks and sorry for such a long post.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble housebreaking your puppy. Have you considered using a Crate to housebreak your min pin? I am thinking of getting a Silky Terrier puppy this fall and this method is what is recommended to housebreak her with.

Yes I've heard that crate training is a good method and I have been considering it lately since I am having such a hard time with the house training. Thank you for you advice and input on my situation.

Do you have her on a feeding and walking schedule? Are you taking her out on a leash to the same spot? Are you bringing her in right away if she does use the bathroom outside?

Considering I just got her I haven't got her on a schedule today I have started that with the feeding...except she will not just stand there and eat she takes a few bites here and a few bites there she never finishes all of her food in one sitting. Yes I do have her on a walking schedule. I take her out every hour on a leash and to the same spot.

When I take her out to use the bathroom I will sit outside waiting for her to use the bathroom for at least 20 minutes before we come inside. So I'm not taking her out there and then coming right back in.

Trust me I feel like doing that since I'm 7in half months pregnant, but I will not do that trust me I want to follow through with the training.

Try putting her food down and only give her a 1/2 hour to finish it.If she doesn't pull it up and dont put it back down until her next feeding. You'll only have to do that a few times until she learns to eat it all at once.If she picks through out the day she'll have to poop all the time and it will make training her more difficult.Generally they have to go within a 1/2 hour to 45 minutes after eating or drinking. Also pull up her water 3 hours before she goes down for the night and walk her before bed time. That way she has less in her bladder and it will be easier for her to hold it over night. Also when she poops in the house pick it up and put it in the spot in the yard you want her to go potty. That way her smell will be there.

Your dog will learn from other dogs. If you take her for good walks, such as around a park, a lake or several blocks in your area, she will pick up the sent of other dogs and, hopefully, meet and greet other dogs. Dogs are social animals and want to meet other dogs. Don't put your dog in a crate (I hate crates) and don't choke your dog like a lot of people do. I never have my dogs on a leash because I talk to them. Be patient, talk to her and she'll do everything you want.

Crate training is one of the best methods for house breaking. You need to make sure the dog only has enough room to stand up,turn around and lay down comfortably. If it's any bigger then that they will use one end to potty in and one end to sleep in.Dogs generally wont go where they have to sleep so if you only give them the amount of room I mentioned they wont go in their crate because then they would have to sleep in it.Make sure you take him out first thing in the morning when he really has to go.Once they learn how to hold it over night the rest comes pretty easy.

Best Advice:

Do your research!
And get the puppy on a sleeping/eating/playing/pottying schedule.
Find some good techniques and tips.

Invest in some form of class. The best online material I found was www.dogtrainingstory.com. That’s what I used and it was very successful.

Hope this helps.
