Default Dog of 5 years is intruced by a new sister (black puppy), please help.

Hello everybody, my name is Doug, I live in Seffner Florida.

I have a 5 year old dog named KD she is a Chow/German Sheppard mix.

Well today we decided to introduce a new dog into the mix a 10 week old black puppy (not sure on the breed not really sure sorry ). Anyways a couple of growls from KD because the puppy was so energetic she got a bit too close to KD's face. But after watching them and walking them for a mile they have been getting along with each other nicely.

But the sleeping arrangements is what worries me. Right now it's 10:20PM EST and we have put both of them in the backyard. The pup is sleeping on the back porch (where KD normally sleeps). But KD is at the side of the house sleeping underneath our john-boat.

What I ask of you highly skilled dog experts is should I work on getting the dogs to sleep together, if so what? Or will it happen naturally and KD sleep with my new puppy.

I thank you all so much in advance!

-Doug

PS. my puppy is a jet-black female and she is nameless, anyone have any suggestions?

There's nothing wrong with them not wanting to sleep together. They aparently want their own space when they sleep and should be aloud to do so.I don't however recommend leaving a 10 week old puppy outside alone just yet. There could be a confrontation with your other dog and she can get hurt. There are also many things in a yard puppies can get into. She also should not be left out unsupervised until she's had all of her shots including rabies.Wild animals can be carriers of diseases that can be passed on to your puppy since she's not fully immunized.

Ok, thanks alot. I will have to tell my parents to keep her in.

We have to take her to the vet in the next 2 days so that checks the rabies thing off. I'm really pleased with how my older dog has responded she growled only once. See the thing is my older dog is a scaredy cat (or dog ). You know the saying? All bark and no bite. So I will definitely use your advice.

Thank you.

No problem.Glad I can help. You should know that that if the puppy is only 10 weeks she wont be getting a rabies shot shot.Vets wont give them until their atleast 4 months old so she still has a while to go.
