Default My DOG ( Roxy ) is not ferocious at all !!!

Hello everyone.

my dog doesnt bark or bite strangers its too easy going and not at all ferocious.
And if this is how it will be then there is a chance that it might get stolen from me as people steal dogs near my place its a Female Boxer Brindle colour very friendly which i dont like and i wanted to train her so that it can scare the strangers.atleast bark at them.

looking for some positive replies.

Regards ,
ZODI.

You want to train your nice, easy going dog to be mean and scare people? Why don't you find her a good home where she won't get stolen and get an aggressive dog from a shelter :/ There is nothing positive IMO about trying to turn a nice dog "ferocious".

Yes you are right...i want to turn my so called nice dog into mean and scare people kinda dog. thats for his own good , wanna know why ? because where i live people actually steal dogs then rip their skin and eat their meat. And if i am saying i want a home dog to be ferocious then dont you think i got a genuine reason for it before even think of such thing ? anyways let the professional solve my problem.

Regards

This is rediculous, and I think that is must be an April fools joke. Who can say what would happen if you take a laid back dog, and try to make it mean? That dog would be messed in the head!

jackryper ....Thats exactly what i am trying to say here dogs shouldn't be so friendly specially near my place they shouldn't...anyways my dog is 1 and a half year old and i brought it from a breeder. i tried to train him on barking at strangers but i guess i did sumthing wrong it doesnt seem to bark or feel uncomforable with strangers i was thinking of keeping him isolated for few days so that he can only see me and no more long walks for him...but i guess it would be very mean of me also i never use a stick to train my dog so he doesn't listen to me most of the time except when it comes to food.

So what do you suggest me to do to train him from not accepting food from strangers or barking at strangers ...

Regards
ZODI.

PS: if you think i am turning my dog from nice sweet dog to a mean bad dog then think again and i know what i am doing so please refrain from this thread instead of coming n cracking jokes about it .

my dog is 1 and a half year old and it brought it from a breeder but i just cant seem to train it, as i never use a stick i cant seem to control it...breeder use to use stick i guess.

And for those who think its bad and all please refrain from the thread i dont need to know how mean i am or stuff like that and i know what i am trying to do here so please understand n co-operate.

And Jack thats exactly what i mean by making him ferocious.

Shouldn't accept food from strangers and should go to everyone with a smile.
Can you please share your tips with me on how you trained your dog that way ?

Thanks,
ZODI.

Zodi, I do understand your perspective of wanting your dog to maybe be a bit more aloof or stranger wary. I would be inclined to encourage you to discuss your alternatives with a good local trainer. Given your dogs nature, i could imagine driven to hard you may do nothing more than break her spirit, however with clever training, you may very well be able to give strangers the appearance of stranger waryness and aloofness, without it really being the case, and still hang on to the friendly young lady that you have now.

I have often heard of people simply putting studded collars on their dogs just to give an appearance of toughness too, from some reports, this has been a good first visual deterrent, or using a soft muzzle when out and about walking to also give the visiual appearance of "not so friendly"

You can teach a dog to bark on command, to the point of only needing a small hand or even wink of an eye response. This may very well be an alternative training for you. (right now i wish i could send a longer video to show you how we have trained our dog to bark on command)

We did it really for the sake of asking a simple maths question, and then Kato responding with x number of barks, it took a bit to get started but once he started to get the idea it became easier from there.

I would have a treat in my hand ready to go, and would bark at him at the same time using a signal with my hand that i wanted him to learn to recognise for one bark, the first time he barked on my hand signal, (which i will be honest was by coincence, but he still barked) he got alot of praise, the next few times a little quicker than the first, but still a little unsure. But it didnt take too long for him to recognise the hand signal as a request for him to bark.

We are now training it a little further by reducing the movement so it can be barely seen by anyone watching but only by Kato focussing on the slight movement of my hand.

Just a thought for you anyway.

hi zodi i have the same problem at the moment, it would be nice if my alsation can just look scary, i have also searched the web but found nothing helpfull, this dog is supposed to be security for the household. but i notice when the other dogs bark for something the alsation runs to me and sit between my legs and just look at what's happening. living in south africa you do need all the security you can find , he is allowed indoors aswell , because i would like him to sleep in the house so no one can poison him outside.
