-We can't take her camping because she is a nuisance. She keeps people up all night, and take out all the fun.
A quick and speedy response will be appreciated! A few facts about her: She is a Treeing Walker Coon Dog/Labrador. She is 2 years old. She is much better now than when we got her but these little problems add up to a big problem! Thanks! |
Safor,
I have a few suggestions for you, first, about her going potty in your home. I found a great product at Wal-Mart called Pets & Kids carpet cleaner. I use it on all sorts of messes in my house, not just pet messes. It seems to take away the smell that your dog left behind. I have noticed a change in my dogs, they no longer "go" inside my home. Secondly, you have to be consistant with the dog, taking her outside on a schedule. 15 minutes after she eats, when you get up in the morning, before bed, etc. If you are going to be gone for any amount of time, purchase a crate, and put her in it while you are gone. Make sure to let her go out before putting her in the crate, so she will not have to go while she is in it.
Second, chewing.....some dogs are more prone to chewing than others. You said that she is 2, which is still considered to be a child or young in dog years. She may be bored, and thats why she is chewing. If she is chewing on small things like lego's you should first make sure that lego's are no where within her reach. She is a large dog, and could choke on the small lego's. 2nd, when you do catch her chewing on something that she shouldnt be chewing on, you should take it from her, and give her something she can chew on, i.e., a rope, or some other toy. Consistency is the key!
Third, Stinky.....I have a lab that reeks! Well, she used to anyway. I would give her a bath, and within that day, she would reek like stinky feet and B.O. I took her to the vet, and they gave me some shampoo, that actually works. (Take your dog to the vet, so they can rule out any kind of infections, or allergies.) My vet gave me chlorhexiderm 2% shampoo. Its an antiseptic shampoo for dogs, cats, and horses. It works, and she doesn't smell anymore! I can hug her now without coming out smelling like feet!
4th, Getting out of the yard.....You might want to try a run for her. Its kind of like a clothes line, that goes up in your yard, and gives her more room to run on, than just being on a chain. She will still be on a chain, but she can run up and down the line, and you can make it as long as you want. Otherwise, you could invest in an outdoor kennel for her, with a roof, to keep her from climbing out.
5th, Whining.....when she whines, ignore her. If you give her attention when she whines, she will keep doing it because she is getting the attention. Dogs will continue the bad behavior because they learn that they get attention from doing it. Try it, it works!
6th, Camping....I am going to assume that she whines, barks, howls when your camping....you would have to be more specific on what exactly she is doing. I suggest that you crate her or put her in the car, or camper while your sleeping. Possibly keeping her close to you. She might just be freaked out by all the sounds of nature.
I hope this helps you out!!
