Default Barking?

I have a husky puppy who barks whenever I leave him in his crate when its not night. How can I get him in the habit of not barking? I live in an apartment complex so its frustrating. Help!

Exclamation A Tired Puppy is a Happy Puppy!

Husky in an apartment? I hope you are ready!

3 - 4 hours of exercise per day. Make sure the dog gets plenty of long jogs or joins in agility clubs/events. Pent up energy creates horrible behavior issues.

A tired puppy is a happy puppy. Dogs should go in their crate after long walks, after a nice session of playtime, bedtime, etc.

First, to correct seperation anxiety you need to exercise your dog more.

Second, address the behavior when you are home. Spray bottle for instant works great. Mix water & lemon juice then spray him in the face every time he barks. If it continues then add "no!" or "ah!" with the spray.

Third, practice leaving the house. First for 2 minutes, then 5, then 10, then 15, etc etc. Do not address the puppy/let him out until he is 100% calm. He needs to know no one will come home or let him out until he is quiet.

Stand by the door on some days and see how long it last. If it last more than 20 minutes you have a behavior issue. If it last less than that, it's okay he's working on it.

Best of luck and let me know if you need any other helpful tips. I live in an apartment too.

A shock collar is a sure bet, but if you don't want to go that route you can try similar products that use ultrasound as a deterrent instead. A quick search brought up the website Stop Dog Barking With The Ultimate Dog Silencer Pro - Safe, Humane Anti Bark Control Product which gives you some options to give you an idea of what's available. I don't know how their prices compare to similar products elsewhere though so you might want shop around to see if you can find better prices.
