nice post... but can they distinguish the Stay and Sit command? How can i effectively train my dogs from these commands?

Yes.... Here is how... when I first give the dog the cue to SIT, once he SITS, I follow it immediately with the STAY. Those two words actually become a "chain" as we call it in the animal training world. The dog understands that in order to get a reward, he must SIT and STAY there, even if it is for only 2 to 5 seconds.
What is great about this is that it lays a great foundation for control when you want to train your dog to lie down too.
