Default Older dog attacking siblings and new puppy

My 6 yr old neutered golden retriever has begun to growl and actually attacked our other younger neutered male. We just brought home a 3 month old golden female and realize this is probably the cause of the dominance issue we are facing. The older male is also growling at the puppy and attacked her on the 4th day. Can anyone help this madness I am facing?

When you say "attacking" do you mean that he actually bites and draws blood on them? Do you have to go pull him off, that kind of thing?

It's dominance that he's showing the puppy as well, it's very typical for this type of situation. However, it's still very serious and potentially dangerous. The puppy and older dog should not be allowed to be alone for a while. They need to bond and form a relationship before you can trust them to be alone. Be sure to take them places where there are other dogs to do their bonding, so it's a wide-spread social interaction instead of a one-on-one interaction. The older dog should begin to take the little one under his wing eventually... but it can be a slow process.

I have to ask the same thing as Splinters. What do you mean by attacking? Is it actual fighting, or is the older dog just putting the kids in their proper place?

If there's no blood being drawn, and it doesn't erupt into a serious confrontation, sometimes it's best to just let the old boy teach the kids some manners. Especially with a young pup. They learn some very important lessons from older dogs, like how to be a dog, and to inhibit their biting during play.
