Unhappy Dog on the Counter

I have a year old Boxer and her new thing is to jump onto the counter when we are not home. And I am not talking about just her front feet, she is completely on the counter. As of today, she is now getting on our counter height dinning room table. Does anybody have any suggestions? She is very obedient when we are home and leaving her outside this time of year is not an option because I live in Montana.

Yikes! This is probably expensive, but from what I've been told there is an invisible fence type of product that you can use in your house. If you have a basement you can set it up to monitor the different rooms you want your dog in/out.
On the less expensive side, is there any way you can keep her in one room when you are gone?
I thought having my Basset Hounds put their two front paws on the counter to barely reach a loaf of bread was bad. Good luck!

I'm not sure if this will work with a dog or not but I've used it on cats...

I take clear packing tape and cut off long strips, lay it sticky side UP on the counter. It's a bit tricky since you have to do it slowly and gently to keep the tape from folding up on itself or flipping over onto the counter. I'm sure masking tape would probably work too but I wouldn't use duct tape since I think it would be nasty trying to remove.

This did the trick keeping my cats down off the counter tops...but like I said, I haven't tried it on a dog so I'm not sure if it will get the same horrified reaction or not!

Good Luck!

I saw a neat idea on the U.K. tv show, "Barking Mad"-- a child came up with this one-- they stacked some wooden building blocks into a creative, yet precarious, structure on the edge of the kitchen countertops. When the dog got too close, the blocks all came tumbling down on the floor, on top of the dog's snout, etc, startling him. (But they weren't so big as to harm him) It worked like a charm! I bet you could even carefully line up some little marbles on the counter top, and when your dog jumps up, the marbles will roll all over, causing her to jump down in a hurry. Of course, this would only work if your dog is not likely to pick them up in her mouth, swallowing or choking on them.
