I have a 15 week old maltese X that I need to train to walk through a doggie door I had fitted to my back door.
I had it fitted last night and I tried to get him to walk through it with a bit of ham at either side of the door with my wife and I. He sort of walked through it several times with the "treat" however he wasn't going to walk through it without the ham there. The doggie door is a clear door with the magnet at the bottom.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to get him to walk through it with the minimum amount of fuss.

Make it fun....toss his favorite toy through the door. Make every experience fun and eventually he will "get it". Be sure it isn't flapping and hitting the puppy or making any scary noises. Be sure to guard against scaring the puppy. At this young age, they are imprintable. I had a dog for 11 years who as a 3 month old adoptee was afraid of doors (amongst many things). It is a lot easier to prevent the fear in the first place than to remove it once it is imprinted in their brains!

One thing I would try is removing the door part so they can see through it for awhile. Holding a treat on one side and having him come through. Eventually you can put the door flap back on.
