Unhappy Help - My dog keeps forcing himself to go toilet

This may sound like a very odd issue, I don't know if anyones ever come across it before....

Whenever I take my dog for a walk he always does a normal 'poo' which is absolutely fine, but as we carry on he will keep stopping and try to keep going to the toilet.

He ends up forcing more out and it ends up that its really sloppy and like diarrhorea, which can't be good for him and also gets all in is hair (he's a rough collie )

We've always had him wormed on time so I don't think it can be that, and he never does this at home. All his poo's in the garden are always normal. So I think the problem must be behavioural rather than a medical.

If anyone has any suggestions, that would be fantastic!

Do you reward him with a treat for going poo?
Do you walk a certain distance or time or do you walk until he is done pottying and then go home?
Are you sure he isn't having intestinal problems?

If yes to #1: he may be trying to earn more treats. Give him something else to do to earn treats rather than potty.

If yes to #2: he's trying to extend his walks.

If no to either of those: can you change where you walk? Perhaps there's something about that route?

If none of these, then I'd look again at #3.

my old english has a similar problem though he dousnt force himself.
we can walk anywhere or even stay in and he will poo in the garden and his poos are fine, but when i go the park, i walk down a grassy track, no strong smells, it is near a river, maybe a bit of wild garlic.
but at the same spot every time he has diarohea and all around the park. this is rather embarising as he like to poo on bushes. i can take him any other park and theres no problem, but ive even tried going to the park from a different enterance and he still has diarhoea. i am sure its down to the excitment. though he goes on the field later in the day

cant really advise you on your rough collie i am sorry. but it could be something that is where you walk, even though you dont notice it. try different walks

Dogs have anal glands on each side of their anus that releases a specific scent to them. They are marking when they poop (its similar to the unneutered male dogs that urinate on every thing). This could possibly be the issue but 1st I would rule out all medical problems before going on to behavior. Go to your vet and discuss it with them.

With that behavior, please see behavior expert. When did you get him, how old is he now? Do you have any background on him before?
