update
I have since my last update been working on a few new things. Timber is doing well on leash. He is staying in the back more. He never goes in front of me. he has learned that if he stays in the back he gets more leash. When he starts inching forward I shorten the leash. I also shorten it when I see other dogs. He still gets excited and wants to play. but doing better. I am actually clicker training with chicken when he looks away "leave it". so this is still new to him. a few bad experiences with other peoples so called "friendly" dog messed things up. so thought the clicker and leave it would be a fresh start. doing ok.
he hasn't wanted to keep focus when he gets excited or nervous. so I am also working with a new idea of a dog whistle. he turns and waits for my command. not a 100% yet but getting there.
today since it is raining pretty hard out. We will be working on leave it in the house. I am going to use a dog treat which he will on take inside the house. when he leaves it he will get some cooked chicken. plus using the clicker of course.
He goes to bed by himself now at about 9:30 pm. he knows the words out and bed. he never leaves the bedroom (where his crate is) until I go through the door first. when we come inside. I say "lady's before gentlemen" and he waits until I am safely through the door before he tip toes in. so he has come along way in the two months we have had him. be two months tomorrow. wow how time flies.
have noticed he is extra calm when there are other calm dogs around. gets very anxious with out of control or very very playful dogs loose. so working on that. alot of people when he is calm keep walking their dogs past and when I ask if he can greet them they act like they don't hear me. I did however got to reward him with another lady's lab pup. timber calmed down and she let her dog greet timber so he was all proud of himself. I am thinking that the cooked chicken would be a good substitute when others won't let their dogs greet him when he is calm. that way he will know he did good. What do you all think?
