Default Potty training outside

I've just got a new lab puppy, she sleeps in the kitchen with my older dog, and during the day they're either outside or can go in and out as they like. At first she did her business on the kitchen floor wherever she felt like it, but then I washed the floor with diluted vinegar, except for the parts where they sleep and where I put the newspapers, and now it seems that she finally figured out to use the newspapers.

I took some of the soiled newspapers and put it outside on the grass where I want her to go when she has access to the outside, it's not very far from the backdoor, so she doesn't have to track half a mile outside or anything.

My question is, how do I teach her to rather go outside when she has the option?

Just a thought, (I'm no expert or anything!) It sounds like you are still putting newspaper down in the kitchen. I'm wondering if you stopped putting newspaper down in the house and kept putting it outside where you want her to go ---it might work. She may be getting mixed signals as to what you want being as you did train her to go on the newspaper in the house!

I agree with Corky, you could be sending mixed signals.

but on the hand , if pooch is still potty in house, you can gradually move the paper closer and closer to the door and then outside where you want it to go potty. just a thought. did it with a beagle once.
