House Training Questions ???
Hey. . . its chelsea and murfin again with yet another question about house breaking. If I catch him in the act what should I do . . . spray him with a water bottle, or let him finish ? When I yell at him he doesn't stop he just continues and if I try to bring him outside I end up tracking "IT" through the house !!!

Hi Chelsea and Murfin. I remember from an earlier post I think you said Murfin is 1 and 1/2. Did you just recently adopt Murfin or did he alway's have this problem? What happen's when you reward and praise when he does go outside, does he respond to it and does he realize how happy you are and that he has done something spectacular? I never sprayed my pup or yelled at him for having an accident in the house but that's just me, I just cleaned it up and said nothing... Does he also poop in the house Chelsea or is it just peeing and how often does this happen?
Sorry for all the nosy question's, I'm just trying to find everything out so that someone who has had this problem can help you better. It was alway's pretty easy for me, mine have had accident's every now and then but it was my fault for not getting home on time, one was on med's (pred) and he could'nt hold it very long or help it.
I do know that it's not alway's a training problem. If you are taking him out to go potty enough there can be other thing's going on also, God forbid. I hope we can help you get to the bottom of this Chelsea. I understand the chewing up thing's as Murfin still has alot of pup in him but at 1 and 1/2 year's old and if this is new behavior I'm wondering about the peeing issue and hope it's nothing serious. Hopefully someone else can help you better than I can Chelsea.
Please keep updating Chelsea...

Hi, when a dog is in training and he pees on the floor you should not scold him because then he will hide to do it. Best to ignore the mishaps and praise him only when he does it outside. Have you tried a peepad? They are scented and attract the dog. Once he starts peeing on the peepad, move the peepad outside. Reward him with a special treat when he does. Hope this helps.

New 1yr old Newf - Need advice!
Hello all, I'm new to the site, as I'll soon be a Newf owner... He's 16 months old now, as we wanted one that was beyond the "little" puppy stage. I'm nervous about the house training phase..and as the pick up day approaches, I become a bit more anxious about it. He's a big boy (already a little over 100 lbs) so any advice on housebreaking? I've purchased the XXL crate for inside the house (recommended for his size), but I suddenly worry that because he is older he may be a difficult one to train. The breeder indicated that he's not been in the house and that it should only take a weekend to housetrain him. I don't want to traumatize him, but I also want to go about it the right way given his age (not a little puppy).
