Default Poo Poo Problem

Help! I recently adopted a taco terrier (50% chihuaua/50% toy fox terrier). We have been having lots of issues with potty training. What has worked best so far is a doggie litter box with special doggie litter and puppy pads. He pees in it every time without fail. It's been wonderful! Problem is, the dog doesn't get that he should be pooping in it too! He poops all over the house, but never in the box. I have picked up the poop and put it in the box, trying to show him that's where he needs to go, but it's not working. Any suggestions?

Default timing

HI -
The only thing I could say to this is to make sure that you are taking your dog outside in times when he is likely to go (after a big play, after eating, etc.) and then wait out there until he goes. Then immediately reward and heap on the praise.
I know the first little while of waiting around for them to go is so frustrating but its so worth it in the long run.
Good luck

Crate training is the best advise I can think of. After the pup has been in the crate take him to the desired place to relieve himself, staying with him until he does his business (don't allow him to play until he's done). Watch for sniffing because they will sniff around when they need to do their business as well. Lots and lots of praise when he has done it in the correct place works best. Scolding for doing it in the wrong place will only make him hide to do it so that he isn't caught. Good luck!
