dog who was housebroke
I have a 10 year old husky mix who has been housebroke for many many years. Recently he has started peeing anywhere and everywhere in the house. I took him to the vet and he had a UTI. That war cleared up in a week. He is still peeing. There are times when he tries to pee and nothing comes out. There are times he will pee right in front of me. We started to kennel him while we are at work. When we are at home they are in one room of our house. Now at night he has started to poop on the floor 20 minutes after you shut the lights off. We have tried to kennel him at night and he barks and cries all night. I can't help but think that something is still wrong with him. He is not like this at all. The vet has ran several tests and has said he is fine but he pees all the time. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you!

I would take him to a different vet and get a second opinion.

Many dogs with UTI's require treatment of antimicrobial drugs which are prescribed for 2 to 3 weeks. Improvements may be seen in a week but for total resolution, you need to continue the antibiotic treatment. It sounds as though your dog may still have the UTI or possibly bladder stones. Is he drinking excessively? Did your vet do a full chem panel and urinalysis?
There are other medical conditions that can cause a once housebroken dog to start peeing in the house, such as hypothyroidism, diabetes and cushing's disease. Canine cognitive dysfunction is also a possibility in senior dogs. Does your dog display any abnormal behavior, besides having accidents in the house?
I agree with DoggieVogue. After 10 years, nobody knows your dog like you do so if you think something is not right with him, there is a 99.99% chance that you are right. If your vet is not willing to listen, find another vet that will.

It took 3 different antibiotics to clear a UTI in when I first got a new pup several months ago. I kept going back with urine samples and finally it cleared up - took about a month before the urine sample was free of infection.
A good vet will take all the dog's symptoms into consideration and get to the root of the problem.

I had a senior dog that started going in the house. Sometimes when they get older, they have more trouble holing it. try doggie diapers until you get a second oppinion from a vet. Maybe it's just old age. Maybe a UTI.

I guess this is much better solution...
We all know that even vet can made mistake...
For me based in your statement there is really something wrong with your dog...
His behavior is unusual that makes me feel that your dog is suffering with something...

This is just a thought--slim possibility. Wondering if this is happening because of some psychological reason---change from his normal routine--new puppy or family member, etc. How is he acting otherwise--seem any different characteristically?
PLEASE, no matter what--DON'T put him on Proin---See post in here on that in Dog Health and Nutrition forum in this forum and be aware that there are 3 interchangeable words for this dog killer!!

I would definitely take him to another vet to be checked out. A lot of times if the dog tries to urinate and can't, it could be signs of a more serious problem then just an infection.

Ask another vet for a second opinion just to make sure that everything is ok with your pet.
