So, I just moved South of Denver and my backyard backs up to a car lot across the alley way and during the day there are lots of truck noises, garbage trucks and just loud noises that go on during the day...well, those loud noises for some reason freak her out and she will not go potty in the backyard, let alone go in the backyard at all! She just stands by the fence and shakes. How do i show her that it's just a noise and that she is safe to do her business in the backyard?????????

How long have you had your dog? Was she use to a really quiet area where you just moved from? By the way--what kind of dog and how old? Is it quieter in the backyard at night? Are you out there with her? Do you have her on a leash? I am no expert and maybe some other member will come up with some other ideas--But here goes. You should go back there with her till she gets more use to her surroundings. I would make a habit of taking her out a lot at night when it is prob. quieter--Get her more use to the area when it is quieter. Wonder if taking her gradually (on a leash) over to the car lot to 'sniff out' the area and maybe get use to it more too. Does she finally go potty out there--or is she doing it in the house or what?? I wouldn't take her anywhere else to go potty till she gets over this fear of the noise and only be able to do her business in that area. I would think that she would gradually get use to the noise--repetition.
