Default House Breaking Puppy

:!: :!: Getting new pup tonight, a maltese with a little poddle thrown in for good luck. "Mr Wilson" will be a house pup and companion. Any suggestions for easy and quick method to train pup please let me know. One owner has multiplemyloma and Rheumatoid arthritis, so it will be up to me to train; guess what! I work. Please help me train my baby. Any information greatly appreciated.

I find that training using newspaper or puppy pads simply prolongs the process. Toy dogs are naturaloly clean and usually not too bad to housetrain, vut no puppy can be expected to hold it for long periods of time.

Take him outside every hour whilst he is awake, and after meals, play, naps, etc. Put him where you want him to go, and lots of praise and encouragement when he goes in the right place. If he does go in the house, never punish him or even speak to him, just calmly and quietly clean up the mess and move on. He'll get the message quickly.

My first dog took 6 months to housetrain using newspaper & old fashioned methods. My second puppy was completely housetrained in 3 days using the above process.

Good luck.

Default Crate Training Article

I know potty training a puppy can be frustraining at times. I have found a well written article that I usually hand out to our clients to help them crate train their pups. The site is http://www.pawsupnorth.com/Cratetraining.htm The one thing to remember is to be consistant & remember they have small bladders at the moment.

Good Luck

Congratulations! I know Mr. Wilson will bring joy to your family! I have a six-year-old female Maltese. I can remember her potty training days vividly.

I wanted to add just a little to this post - be patient and above all, consistent. It may take up to 7-8 months to train a smaller breed such as a Maltese. I thought this was insane until I compared the difference in training times between my larger yorkie-poo and my Maltese.

When trying to determine what method is best for your family, consider how you want Mr. Wilson to potty in the future. Will he be leash walked to potty? Will he have a doggy door? Do you live in a condo? Will you be using an indoor potty system? You've got a lot of choices. Just stay consistent and he will follow your guidance.

Go to my website on small breed dogs. You'll find great information on potty methods and training. I'm a Kennel Manager and also write an informal blog about the dogs and issues I see in the kennel. You can subscribe to it through your Yahoo homepage or any other XML reader.

I AM AMAZED HOW SMART MY MALTAPOO (MR WILSON) IS AND HOW QUICK HE PICKS UP ON DIFFERENT THINGS. I LOVE HIM AND HE IS "PRICLESS", ALL 3 POUNDS OF HIM. BLESS YOU ALL.
