Default Agressive Dog. Help?

So I live with a dog that can be quite aggressive at times. He doesn't respond well to unfixed boys (He isn't fixed either). But he is okay with some. Sometimes he'll just start growling at us for absolutely no reason. He's pretty bipolar. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to fix his aggressive behavior. We don't have the means for getting a trained professional to help.. so any other advice would be great! Thank you much!

Default walking

Does the little guy go on any walks, or runs. Dogs need to be walked every day to release some of their built up tension.

Have you considered having him neutered? That tends to cut down on "male aggression". You might also want to consider a muzzle. I don't know the laws where you live but where I live you can get into a great deal of trouble of your dog injures another dog, especially if he was the aggressor. You mentioned that finances are an issue. If your dog injures someone elses dog, you could be sued for the vet bills. Also, many places now have some sort of vicious dog legislation which could mean that your dog could be seized by animal control. You could end up paying a large fine or even have your dog ordered to be euthanized. A muzzle would appear to be by far the lesser of two evils.

Chimi is with us 24/7, so wherever we go, he goes. He gets pleeeenty of exercise.
Yes, we have considered getting him fixed, but his owner wants to stud him out to get a female puppy... to carry on his lineage. We put a muzzle on him any time he gets too aggressive. We're pretty well aware of how bad it could be if he actually ended up attacking another dog.
I guess we were looking for some training advice.. If anyone knew anything we could do (Other than getting him fixed) to mellow him out a bit.

Thanks for the input!

Just a thought, but do you think it's a good idea to stud a dog who has aggression? These things can be passed on, and it would be creating more aggressive dogs to be.

Hi Droolage, I have/had an aggressive dog and tried everything, after 5 year's of trying different thing's ( schooling, private trainor's, Prozac, allopathic, holistic and homeopathic vet's) we found out it was the vaccine's causing it. I'm not saying this is what it is for Chimi as there are many thing's that can cause aggression but I have to agree with lulunralph that it would not be a good idea to pass this on to a littler of puppies. It could be genetic...

Hi Droolage,

all the professionals in here can not give any advise.
Firstly because the dog shows signs of growing aggressions against humans, secondly it is not your dog...

...and every hint of training could make the behaviour worse (without having seen the whole situation) Serious trainer will not take the responsibility for that. When the owner brings an action against us we have to carry the liability for every hint we have given.

Try to be very quiet and use positive energy. Be gentle with him, and make sure you reward him when he calms down. If things get worse, I think you should find an experienced trainer for him.

You haven't mentioned the size or breed of your dog. It sounds as though he could definitely benefit from obedience training and socialization. Aggression cannot be allowed to continue so you must consider dog training sessions or getting yourself a good dog training guide.
