Default Collar problems

I have a maltipoo that gets very depressed when I put a collar on him, even if there are no tags on it. It is very lightweight and I have it on loosely. He will not eat for days and will not play either when he is wearing it. He will drink water on occasion but he looks so sad. Should I continue to make him wear the collar or does anybody have any ideas to make this a happier experience for him? Since he is still a puppy (5 months) I'm a bit worried about him not wanting to eat.

Stop putting the collar on your dog's neck now! By the way, what's the material of it? I think nylon collar is the best one out there. It's more lightweight than other collars.

Don't really have a good answer to your problem. My 2 dogs do not wear collars--only for walks and trips to the vet. You will see why if you go to page 2 of the Dog Health and Nutrition forum/section in here and find thread I started titled: Dangers of Dog Collars. Now I don't know your situation as far as your dog possibly getting loose and therefore no info on a collar, but is it possible that you could leave the collar off some of the time (most of the time) esp. during meal time (play time). Maybe put it on him at bedtime hoping he will get use to it that way? I would hate to see him not eating--esp. a young pup who needs a lot of nutrition at that stage of growing!! And dogs should be drinking plenty of water also. I am no expert but common sense tells me the food and water should be the 1st concern----There are a lot of smart members in here that may have a better answer for you, but in the meantime---------!

Don't guess you have the collar too loose (And you don't want it too tight either) so that he feels that it is in his way when he lowers his head to eat or drink? Or when he tries to move around and play? More apt to catch collar on
something if too loose too, I am thinking.
