I would like to be able to put Buddy in our back yard and not have to worry bout him. Problem is he digs his way under the fence. For a while when my brothers dog was here he attached a horse ball to his collar by way of leash so if he gt under the fence he couldn't go anywhere. But we would have to go out and get him from under the fence. Is there a way besides and invicible fence to keep him in the back yard. Any ideas of what to put round the base of the fence or anything so he can't get under?

Not sure I can help but here is what I did: I have a chain link fence and cocker spaniels. What kind of dog--how old, and what kind of fence do you have?? I placed those cheaper gray patio blocks--about 8"by 16" by about 1-1 and a half inches thick in a continuous line under the fence. When Corky was younger --he did manage to get under fence a couple times--I didn't see it happen but I figure there was something on other side he really wanted to go after (like a rabbit) and he must of kept 'pushing' and finally managed to get under--But it was not from digging!!
You might also try cementing in a line under your fence.------ Another idea, I am wondering if you could attach a line of some kind of wiring and bury it so many inches--guessing maybe 8-10" deep. Dog might try digging but would have a hard time getting through the 'fence-like wiring'! Do you live in the country where it wouldn't matter so much how it looked?

11 year old Jack Russell. Wooden fience, privacy syle around sides and back decorative on front. No spaces between planks. We live in a Suberban Community. At the moment and probably for a long while to come we will have very little money to spend on this. I had thought about putting gravel under the fence line bout 1/2 to a foot in width and some depth but he has dug through the gravel. And there may be a chance of us needing to move in the somewhat not so distant future. I'm thinking we may just have to keep doing what we're doing at the moment due to these issues. We just put him out on a chain at the moment so he does his business and then bring him back in.

We had a digger once. We poured quickcrete around the base of the fence. The dog didn't dig under after that. Also, do you take your dog for a walk? If he is only going out in the yard and that's it, I can see why he is trying to get out. He is bored with his space and wants to see new things. We don't have a fence where we live now. If my dogs are loose out in the yard, they all come running at the sight of a leash because that means they get to go outside of the yard for a while. Take you dog for walks everyday.

Chicken wire works very well for diggers. You will have to dig a trench around the base of your fence and then cut the chicken wire so that it can be stapled on to the base of your fence and you can bury at least 12 inches of it. Put the chicken wire all the way around your yard. Dogs don't like the feel of the wire on their claws when they start to dig. Plus if they want to get under the wire, they are going to have to do a lot of digging.

I had a Husky/German Shepherd/Wolf mix, who inherited the Husky Houdini gene and was a very determined escape artist. This trick worked wonders at keeping her home. She was very smart and would see the places where the edges of the wire came together and try to dig there and peel back the wire, but there was enough of it buried, to where the dirt on top and her weight standing over it, while she was digging, made it too heavy to totally peel back the wire and she would then give up.
