Training a Hyperactive Puppy
Having a hyperactive puppy can be very nail biting at times to say the least. Hyperactive puppies can exhibit behaviors such as constant tail chasing, digging, jumping on people and dogs, barking, running back and forth in the house, and nudging their owners to play or pet them. Some breeds that are known to produce hyperactive puppies are Labrador retrievers, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers (not an automatic), and some smaller breeds too.
So, what can be done to curve or decrease the hyperactive puppy that digs, jumps, barks, and runs through the house? In order for this unwanted puppy behavior to decrease you will need to provide the puppy with excersise, (mental and physical), basic puppy obedience training, and a sense of you being in charge. For many high powered dog breeds, a firm but fair hand is needed to gain the top position in the pecking order.
Some things you may want to consider is to have the puppy wait before eating, sit at the door before going on walks, sit before getting a toy, etc... Things like this demonstrates to the puppy that you control the resources not him.
