Exclamation How do I train my 1 year old Boxer?

Well I have a 1 year old Boxer who only knows how to sit. He was born in Feb and we got him in June and we didnt bother to train him and now he is a pain, we have to lock him up in the backyard. He still nibs at me from time to time when we free him so we dont free him that much. So thats why if anyone has any tips advice to help train my dog that would be very helpful. As his time is running out, we will move soon by june and if he isnt a good dog he will be left behind.

btw am 14 so not my rules if i could i would take him, and have him sleep by my bedside but once again he doesnt act right.

Does he get much exercise? This could be a major contributer to his behavior problems. Too much pent up energy. A Boxer should have AT LEAST 60 minutes of exercise per day, preferably run time to really burn that energy. You'd be surprised how much exercise can help with all sorts of behavior problems. It's kind of like dealing with an unruly toddler or something. You take them to the park to run around and play for an hour and you gave no problems for the rest of the day because they're pooped:wink: Give this a shot. I guarantee it will help A LOT! If this doesn't stop the nipping though, make a high pitched squeal and ignore him for a bit. This is the way a pup in a dog pack would react. Letting him know the nipping hurts you can often stop the behavior. Also, when he nips at you don't run or get too worked up. This gives off a high energy reaction which he will gladly match. Remain calm but purposeful with the advice I gave you before relating to the high pitched squeal. Also, don't forget about positive reinforcement! Whenever he is being a good boy or adheres to your commands give him verbal praise and a juicy treat!

Good Luck!

Has it occurred to you that the reason you are having problems with your dog is because you have cast the poor thing out to the back yard and there isn't enough human contact? You took this dog and never bothered to train him and now you are saying that if the dog doesn't miraculously change, you intend to leave him behind? Wow! There may be others who will disagree with me but, in my opinion, you are "a piece of work."

The best thing you could do for this dog is to rehome him to someone who actually cares.
