Peeing inside
Hi there, we received our slightly mature puppy, house trained puppy from the breeder about a month and a half ago. She is just over 7 months old. When she arrived she knew to notify us that she had to go out to pee or do #2. More recently that has tapered off. She is a wonderful dog, very loving and very happy, receives lots of attention, many walks per day, and is in good health according to our vet.
The problematic thing here is that she has really started to do some damage to the living room carpet. This can occur at any time of the day, but very often early in the morning. I often find a fresh wet spot on the carpet just after waking up at 5:30am. ( I usually take her out at 10:30 at night to walk and pee etc) before bed.
What can I do to stop this peeing? Aside from sticking her in the crate all night?
I had the past week off from work, and steam cleaned the carpets because of her. I proceeded to take her out to a designated potty area every 2-3 hours as per our vets instructions...and use a "go pee/go poop" command...
Worked wonderful. No accident. Yesterday she didnt get as much attention. I had errands to run and I left her home for about 3 hours...no big deal...well she pee'd and this morning I woke at about 5:15am...my very sensitive nose detecting something was wrong... Fresh pee found on the carpet.
Im pretty miffed. What can I do... its like this dog is changing her mind about being trained. I have put down peices of scrap carpet over where she used to pee....
What else can I do? Also what can I use to get rid of the phermones where she has pee'd and neutralise the smell?
I had been using arm and hammer OXY spray for pet accidents but the smell of the cleaner affects my allergies...
Any help would be great. I have talked to both my vet and our puppy class trainer... and my pup is still peeing inside...
Thanks..sorry for the long read.

Frustrating isn't it! Hate toilet training puppies!
If you google cleaning dog urine online you will find all sorts of recipes for inexpensive but effecting cleaners that will neutralise the smell. One thing you must be sure of is not to use ammonia - anything containing ammonia will simply call the dog back to the same spot.
She could be weeing overnight because she is anxious - you might well find that leaving her in a crate or cage (especially if you make it cosy and den like) causes her to relax and so prevent anxiety accidents.
Also, you can remove access to her water bowl from around 8.00 p.m. or so until morning. That can make a difference too.

I agree. Does the dog ever go during the day or is it always at night as I'm getting from this? nuetralize the smell with a pet odar nuetralizer from the pet store. As suggested previously, try to keep food and water away at least 2-3 hours b4 bedtime and let the dog out several times b4 bed to go to the bathroom and once right b4. Has the dog been fixed? Probably doesn't apply unless the dog marks during the day purposely which this doesn't sound like. This should be a good start. if all else fails contain the dog in at least a small area with newspaper on the floor if not a crate until the dog's bladder strengthenes. There is a slight possibility of a bladder infection ro something but since it's only at night I'd wait off testing unless you can't solve the issue in a few weeks. Good luck.
