Exclamation Dog+Leash=emotional dog

my 3 year old golden gets so sad when you bring out a leash it makes you melt! He gives you those big brown eyes and the saddest look possible! And when you start to go one way he will park his butt on the ground and won't budge. I can't pull him cause I don't want to choke him and I can's push him because he weighs the same amount as me! So I'll go around in a circle seeing which direction he wants to go and he just watches me and gives me a sad look. When I do get him going we'll go a distance and change directions then again he parks his butt down. If I go out onto the road he's fine but if I just want to walk him around the yard then he sits down and doesn't move! (sigh)
HELP ME! I'll try anything. Unless it'll hurt him.

Sounds like he's the boss instead of you. You're letting him do whatever he wants to do and probably making him feel that it's ok to behave like that. Just put the leash on, no eye contact, no talking to him, no petting him, and start walking. If you have to pull a little, that's fine. Use treats to coax him along. But make sure he always goes where you want him go, not where he wants to go. He isn't going to change his behavior if you let him do what he wants. It's up to you to take charge. It won't get any better if you don't.

I wish it was that easy! He can't be bribed by treats! Plus he weighs more than me, and when I do pull he still doesn't move. I'll be choking him and he won't move. I'll push him and pull him in every direction he just doesn't move! I tried calling him to come, I've tried everything! My moody old dog goes on the leash better than him! Even then every 5 feet I need to throw a treat ahead.

Put the leash on him and leave it on for a few weeks. He won't have too much of a choice to get used to the leash then. Don't use the leash just for walks. When he sees that he can eat and go potty and sleep with it and it's ok, he might walk better with his leash.

Have you thought of using a prong collar? They are great training tools when used properly. I have attached a video that demostrates some different collars. The trainer in the video is very good and funny as you can see. lol

ok well i can't post a video because i don't have enough posts,

so go to youtube and search "Dog Training - Pinch/Prong Collar Explained (Hunkie part 4)" and you will find the video i was trying to post.

That's what I did to get all of my dogs used to leashes and it works great!
